Awareness creation programme to Hindu Board Children Home

31.01.2015, Hind Board Children Home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli, Jaffna.

Noolaham foundation conducted the awareness creation programme of the findings through a research project title of ‘Unwritten laws and practices, and their influence on community and human rights in Jaffna’ at the Hindu board children home (HBCH), Kalasalai Road, Thirunelveli, on 31st January 2015 from 3.30 pm to 6.00 pm. This project was implemented by Noolaham Foundation and funded by Neelan Thiruchelvam Trust (NTT), Colombo. Forty six Hindu board’s students participated and benefited from this awareness programme. Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan (Acting-Chief Program Executive), Miss. Satchithananandan Gajani (Finance and Administration Officer), Mr. Sriranganathan Srivakeesan (Researcher), Mr. Nadarasa Pirapakar (Digital Library Officer) and volunteers of the foundation participated in this event on behalf of Noolaham Foundation. Mr. Sriranganathan Srivakeesan facilitated this event.

Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan gave brief explanation about the project on the beginning of this event. Mr Sriranganathan Srivakeesan shared the Unwritten Laws and practices among the Jaffna community and to identified their influence on Human Rights at present (2014) with participants. He also provided enough knowledge about history of Tamil culture, tradition, Thesavalamai Law and United Nation’s fundamental human rights articles . It was made students, easy to understand about Jaffna Tamils’ practices and unwritten laws. Noolaham Foundation believes that this programme will be created awareness among the home students about their rights and bring them up from the cultural barriers, create a friendly and protective environment and ensure a healthy society.

During the post event evaluation of interview with a student, she added from the awareness creation programme I really learned a lot and I wish to thank Noolaham Foundation for organizing and hosting this awareness creation event, as well as the very helpful and energetic staff. The environment was very positive and engaging from the start, and it was very nice to have the experience with such a diverse but provide an effective results according to its goals. Finally the event came to an end at 6.00 pm with the vote of thanks by Mr. Sivarajah Lambotharan.
