Tamil speaking societies in Sri Lanka are endowed with rich intellectual resources. In every sphere of history, most of them have been ignored and hence they go out of existence. What we failed to gain from our preceding generation is far too much in comparison with what we actually inherited from them. This has become a common accident that keeps on occurring throughout the elation of every generation. It is definitely not a point of debate that every element of our culture needs to be analyzed and documented securely. However the number of people who stepped forward to put them in real practice is too less. It is certain that like yesterday is today’s history, today is tomorrow’s history. Thereby it is crucial to document the past and the present of our society as well. History has taught us a good lesson of acquiring what we lost and preserving what we have. Research and documentation in our society is progressing at snail-speeds.
